The plastic is absorbed and melted through the wall of the rotomolded box, and then adheres to and gradually accumulates on the wall of the mold, and after all the plastic inside the rotomolded box is melted, the heating is stopped, the mold is cooled, and the product is released. Here we will introduce in more detail how the rotomolded box is made.
Principle of the rotomolded box manufacturing process
The production process of rotomolded boxes
The basic process of roto-molding is simple: a powdered or liquid polymer is placed in a mold and heated while the mold rotates on a vertical axis and then cools. At the beginning of the heating phase of the roto-molding process, if the material is in powder form, a porous layer is formed on the surface of the rotomolded box mold, which then gradually melts as it circulates, eventually forming a homogeneous layer of uniform thickness; if the material is in liquid form, it flows and coats the surface of the rotomolded box mold first, then stops flowing completely when it reaches the gel point. The rotomolded box molds are then transferred to the cooling zone, where they are cooled by forced ventilation or water spray, and then placed in the work area, where the rotomolded box molds are opened and the finished parts are taken away, followed by the next cycle.
The basic process of roto-molding is simple: a powdered or liquid polymer is placed in the rotomolded box mold and heated while rotating around two vertical axes (rotation and revolution).
Application of release agent: the release agent is applied to the rotomolded box mold to facilitate the removal of the product from the rotomolded box mold and to effectively avoid damage to the product when it is removed from the mold due to the high adhesion between the product and the rotomolded box mold.
Installation of inserts and related molding accessories: the rotomolded box inserts mainly play the role of local enhancement of the parts, and the rotomolded box molding accessories mainly point out the ribbing or special parts of the molding module, which must be properly installed in the newly set position before the rotomolded box mold is added to the material.
Loading: The rotomolded box should be strictly measured before the material is added, and the components in question need to be premixed when additives need to be added. Precisely weighing the weight of powder resin required for the final rotomolded box, adding it to the bottom of the separated rotomolded box mold, and then fastening the two half-molds together and mounting them on the text-bearing shaft.
Close the mold: before closing the mold, pay attention to remove the remaining materials at the mold closure, and make sure the two parting surfaces are intact to avoid leakage of materials during processing.
Heating: put the rotomolded box mold with loaded materials into the heating furnace (or use other heat sources such as gas flame to heat), set the temperature of the furnace above the melting point of resin, and rotate it with the frame around the main and secondary axes which are perpendicular to each other. During the rotation process, the rotomolded box mold is heated up to a given temperature and then kept warm, and the material is gradually melted under the rotation and heating, and sinks on the whole inner wall of the rotomolded box of the mold cavity and gradually excludes the gas trapped in the material until the finished rotomolded box parts are formed.
Cooling and shaping: When the resin is fully melted, the rotomolded box mold is transferred to the cooling chamber and cooled, where it continues to rotate while being cooled by forced ventilation or water spray.
Demolding and cleaning the mold: The former is to avoid damaging the rotomolded box products when demolding, while the latter is to remove the residual materials and debris from the rotomolded box molds, ready for the next molding cycle to be loaded.
